On November 3, 2019 we received a call that a pit bull had been found tied to a tree in Detroit, beaten, emaciated and scared. We had a house full of rescues but could not say no when we met him. He was heartworm positive and the next year was a challenging one, getting him through treatment and on the road to recovery.
Fast forward two years and we rescued Marco from a shelter where he had been living for 8 months. He was also severely underweight, his nose was broken, he had burn marks all over his body, his tongue was sliced and we were told he had been used as a bait dog.
Neither of our boys could walk on a leash, eat out of your hand or be around other pets when they first came to us. They were very frightened, and it took a lot of patience and love to bring out their true personalities.
Training them was an education for us, as well. We had no idea just how much fear and misinformation surrounded this beloved breed.
After volunteering at several shelters and humane societies we were heartbroken to see just how many bully breeds were abandoned and euthanized due to breed specific legislation. We realized that we had discovered our purpose.
Responsible pet ownership begins with understanding the importance of spay and neuter to help reduce the overwhelming number of dogs abandoned in shelters every day.
Heartworm prevention and treatment are crucial for our pet's health. We connect those in need with service providers that offer discounts on these services to keep our pets healthy and in with their families.
